The initiative aims to ensure that highway users are fully informed about the availability, pricing, and application process for concessional toll passes, making travel more economical, transparent, and hassle-free.
In a move to enhance transparency and improve commuter awareness, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has directed its field offices to prominently display detailed information about local monthly and annual toll passes at all fee plazas under its jurisdiction.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring that highway users are well-informed about the availability, rates, and procedures for availing concessional passes that make travel more economical and seamless, stated a Ministry of Road Transport & Highways statement on Friday.
Signage boards carrying this information will be installed at visible locations such as fee plaza approaches, customer service areas, and entry and exit points. These boards will be displayed in English, Hindi, and a regional language to ensure accessibility for all users. NHAI has mandated that the signage be placed within 30 days and remain clearly visible at all hours, in accordance with applicable fee rules.
To further widen access, the pass-related information will also be uploaded on the Rajmargyatra mobile app and corresponding NHAI project websites. The local monthly pass facility is available to private vehicle owners residing within a 20 km radius of a fee plaza, subject to applicable conditions. Required documents include Aadhaar card, vehicle registration certificate, and proof of residential address. After verification, the pass is issued at the fee plaza helpdesk.
The annual pass, valid for one year or up to 200 fee plaza crossings, is applicable only for private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans. It can be purchased through the Rajmargyatra app and is digitally activated on the vehicle’s FASTag after payment of a one-time fee of ₹3,000. This pass is accepted at approximately 1,150 fee plazas across national highways and expressways in India.
