The Andhra Pradesh government will explain the Centre the ground realities of the power crisis in the state and what it requires from the Union government to tide up the situation at a high-level meeting on fuel crisis, likely to be held in Delhi in the third week of June.

The State Chief Secretary Prasanna Kumar Mohanty, who played a key role in convincing the Central government to convene the meeting with all key departments, will give a power-point presentation at the meeting to be chaired by Cabinet Secretary and attended by key officials of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Department as well as those from the Ministry of Power.

The Chief Minister will explain the hardships being faced by all categories of consumers with special emphasis on industrial sector, the efforts of the State government to address the crisis and to achieve self-sufficiency in power sector along with short and long term strategies that are being contemplated to achieve the desired level of generation and capacity addition. His focus will be on impressing upon the Centre to allocate the assured quota of natural gas as well as coal for augmenting generation so that the State could overcome the shortage.

He would also explain government strategy for continuing efforts to construct and commission new power projects apart from procurement of power from other sources to meet contingencies as and when they arise.

His presentation would explain the idling of 2,534 mw out of the installed capacity of 3,356 mw, gas-based power plants for want of adequate quota of natural gas.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy explained to the Centre about the power crisis and emphasised the need for resorting full supply of natural gas and allocation of additional coal blocks to AP to bailout the state from power shortages.

The chief secretary would also write a letter to SK Srivastava, secretary, ministry of coal for allocating seven coal blocks to APGENCO to meet the requirements.
