The Andhra Pradesh government has failed to expand the runway at Vijayawada airport to 10,500 ft and modernisation of the terminal building at the airport even after six years it signing an MoU with the Airports Authority of India in this regard.
As per the MoU, it was decided that the AAI is given about 500 acres for upgrading the airport. But it is said that the State government only is delaying in providing the land required for the runway expansion.
The Union Civil Aviation Ministry has allotted Rs 340 crore for the airport’s new terminal building in 2012-2013 Budget and proposed that the State government acquire part of land on priority basis so that the terminal building could be taken up.
