A new road policy will be brought into effect in Bihar to tackle road maintenance issues, said the State government on March 5. The State government, at the same time, blamed the Centre for discriminating against the state in releasing funds for road projects.
The State Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav said in the State Legislative Assembly that maintenance of roads has been a problem due to insufficiency of funds, but the State government was committed to ensure upkeep of roads for which a road maintenance policy was on anvil.
The measure for maintenance of roads will come into effect from next year and the accountability of the contractors will be fixed for upkeep of roads in a time-bound manner.
