Goa exported Rs 610 bn ore in 3 years

Union Mines Minister Dinsha Patel informed Parliament that over the last 3 years, iron ore worth over Rs 61,000 crore was exported from Goa.

Giving year-wise break-up of iron ore export from the state, the minister said in 2009 to 2010 Rs 22,809 crore worth ore was exported from Goa, in 2010 toit was Rs 17,147 crore and in 2011 to 12, it was Rs 21,818 crore.

Ore exports from Goa fetched Rs 2,185 royalty for the ministry. Patel in his reply said that in 2009 to 2010 the mines ministry collected Rs 285 crore royalty on iron ore exports from Goa in 2010 to 11 it was Rs 958 crore and in 2011 to 2012, Rs 942 crore.

He also informed Parliament that iron ore exports have declined to 61.74 million tonne in 2011 to 12 from 117.37 million tonne in 2009 to 10.

All port authorities in the country are directed to share information on mineral exports with state governments, the minister informed.

For facilitating better coordination and sharing of data, all state governments are advised to ensure the inclusion of representatives of port authorities in their state coordination cum empowered committees.

The export of ore is regulated by the export-import policy of the government which presently provides that the export of iron ore of up to 64 percent Fe grade is free and any iron ore higher than 64 percent Fe grade shall be exported through MMTC.
