With Rs 200 crore foreign direct invesment (FDI) a rail wheel manufacturing factory will be built in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad by Bonatrans, a Czech wheel and axle manufacturing company. The Indian Railways, which has already have such a wheel and axle factory in Bangalore, has succeeded to attract the FDI from Bonatrans.
The plant in Aurangabad will be operational in 2015, say media reports. Railways requires more than three lakh wheels a year for its ever-increasing number of trains.
The company is already supplying about 10,000 wheels to Indian Railways and Metros this year. The proposed wheel and axle factory will produce about 20,000 wheel sets and 5,000 axles in a year, and gradually ramp up the supply to 50,000 wheels annually.
