Pre-bid meeting for Navi Mumbai airport
About 20 companies participated at the pre-bid conference for the Navi Mumbai International Airport project. This was the first meeting after the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) had floated the request for qualification (RFQ) for the proposed airport.
Ozar airport by March-end
The airport terminal at Ozar, about 20 km from Nashik, is scheduled to be ready by the end of March. The state government and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) are jointly upgrading the airport at a cost of Rs 80 crore. The airport has capacity to handle 300 passengers at a time and around six planes can be landed there. The building will be totally air-conditioned and will have all facilities and amenities as per the global norms.
Agra airport to get a new terminal
The Uttar Pradesh government has given nod for acquiring around 50 acre for constructing a new terminal at Agra´s Kheria Airport. The state government has sanctioned Rs 60 crore for the land acquisition, though farmers´ bodies have been demanding compensation at the prevailing market rates. The district authorities have been advised to negotiate one-to-one and speed up the acquisition process so that work can start before the Lok Sabha polls.
Ludhiana airport expansion
Punjab governor Shivraj Patil has announced expansion of Sahnewal airport in Ludhiana that has been struggling with irregularity in its lone domestic flight to the national capital.
Approximately 322 acres of land is being acquired for the extension of runway of the domestic airport at Ludhiana. The land is being acquired by Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA).
Global tender floated for Navi Mumbai airport project
The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) floated a global tender for the Rs 9,500-crore Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) project. The tender invites applicants to pre-qualify them for the bidding stage.
Madurai airport to begin cargo operations
Madurai airport may begin operation of its cargo lifting facility by the end of this month, according to sources. Though it was declared as a customs airport three years ago, the airlines could not lift cargo without custodianship facilities and they were merely processing passenger luggage. Airport director, K Sangiah Pandian said that work is proceeding on a fast pace and they may start cargo lifting anytime this month.
Qatar Airways freight services to Hyderabad
Qatar Airways Cargo is set to begin a dedicated freight service from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Hyderabad from April.
