Since last September 15, at least 55 cargo vessels that operate from Old Mangalore Port to Lakshadweep are idling. Failure on the part of the department of ports to carry out an annual inspection of vessels has meant they are berthed at the port, and not able to ply to Lakshadweep.

Old Mlore port urges govt for vessel inspector
The Karnataka government has been urged by the Old Mangalore Port UsersÂ’ Association to appoint an official to carry out the yearly inspection of vessels for the renewal of ship validity certificate. All these years the port officer was carrying out the annual inspection for the renewal of validity certificate of ships, the Association said.

Ennore Port to build coal berth for TANGEDCO
A coal loading facility will be set up at Rs 250 crore by Ennore Port, being run by the Union government in Tamil Nadu. It is the third facility for the State-owned power utility Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation to tap rising demand for coal used for generating electricity.

Adani’s Australian port firm to raise $1.2 bn to cut debt
To reduce its debt burden, Adani Abbot Point Terminal Pty Ltd, which owns a coal terminal in Australia, is planning to raise $1.2 billion through multiple debt instruments to refinance the port companyÂ’s borrowings. The port company, owned by Adani Group, has a debt of nearly $2 billion.

Cargo traffic up at three ports in south
Except Chennai Port Trust (ChPT), other ports in the vicinity-Ennore Port, Krishnapatnam Port and Karaikal Port – have handled cargo well for the 1st half of the present year, say media reports. Sunk Chinese cargo ship traced near Sagar Island
The Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) on October 15 traced the wreck of the Chinese-owned Panama-flag freighter MV Bingo, which sank nearly 22 nautical miles south of Sagar Island on October 12 night. Owners of the ship have been directed to salvage the wreck as it is in the navigation channel used by ships moving to and from the ports of Kolkata and Haldia.
