Work on INS Vikrant 2nd phase to get under way in Kochi
For the second phase construction work on INS Vikrant ship carrier it has now been taken to the repair dock of the Cochin Ship Yard. For the first phase of the carrier construction the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has sanctioned Rs 3,261 crore.
Paradip Port goes for improved cargo handling
To boost cargo volume through its route, the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) has decided to establish containerised cargo handling' infrastructure. PPT said that the port authorities have chalked out a plan to install containerised cargo handling facilities at the port because its export has shot up.
Strike hits work at Old Mangalore Port
As members of the Old Mangalore Port UsersÂ’ Association went on a strike, work there came to a stand still on October 22. The protestors were demanding the appointment of the surveyor of vessel at the port.
Adani Ports may buy Dhamra port in Odisha
In Odisha, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has reportedly interested to buy Dhamra Port Co (DPCL), a venture of Larsen and Toubro and Tata Steel, early this year for about Rs 5,000 crore, say media reports quoting sources in the companies mentioned. APSEZ is set to buy Dhamra port after its operator secured environmental and coastal clearances for its second phase of expansion.
Chennai port fixes rates for container facility
The Union government owned Chennai port has fixed rates for a new container loading facility it is building with private funds on par with the rates fixed for a container terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru port, also State-owned, near Mumbai.
Mormugao Port seeks nod for Rs 200 cr coal handling project
To establish a mechanised system for coal and coke handling facility at berth No 11 in Mormugao Port, the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) has sought the approval of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB). The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 200 crore and two million tonne of coal and coke would be handled per annum.
Inland port proposed in Sahebganj of Jharkhand
The proposal to build an inland port on the Subernarekha river in Sahebganj in Jharkhand has been said to be cleared by the Planning Commission. The proposed project is expected to transform the economy of the mineral-rich state by providing the stateÂ’s first-ever river outlet for mining exports.
No ship inspection at Old Mangalore Port
The Karnataka government has been urged by the Old Mangalore Port UsersÂ’ Association to appoint an official to carry out the yearly inspection of ships for the renewal of ship validity certificate.
Five bidders vie for JNPTs liquid terminal
For constructing Rs 1,800-crore liquid terminal for the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai, five companies, including Adani Ports and United Liner Agencies (ULA), have shown interest. Apart from ULA and Adani, Aegis Logistics, IMC and Netherlands's Vopak are expected to submit their applications on October 21, which is the deadline, the JNPT has said.
