Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) holds the potential to improve India´s energy efficiency by enabling more efficient long-haul transportation across India. He was speaking after inaugurating the Petrotech 2016 conference on December 5, 2016, in New Delhi where he added, ´At the moment, the piped natural gas network in India is 15,000 km in length.
India´s renewable energy potential is vast and untapped
India has 275 GW of installed electricity generating capacity which is significantly higher than 140 GW of peak demand of electricity across the country. The energy generated through coal alone is higher than its peak demand. Despite the installed capacity exceeding power demand, some parts of the country face acute power shortages and more than 300 million people in India are still without access to power.
Ashoka Buildcon Bags Rs.950-crore Bihar rural electrification order
Ashoka Buildcon Ltd, one of India´s leading highway developers in the country, through its Power Division, has bagged rural electrification works worth Rs.950 crore in Bihar. The company has received Letters of Intent for the following projects from North and South Bihar Power Distribution Co. Ltd.
Ministry of Defence pushes for use of solar power
The Ministry of Defence's defence estates department is likely to make off-grid solar power provisions mandatory for large buildings, with provisions for incentives in the form of rebates and space exemptions in order to encourage solar power.
Direct subsidy for rooftop solar in AP
The Eastern Power Distribution Company of AP Limited (EPDCL) is planning to generate and export solar power to the grid in order to promote generation of solar rooftop energy.
LEDs to be used in off-grid projects
Energy efficient Light Emitting Diodes (LED) are to be made mandatory in the national off-grid solar programme, a top expert working with the Indian government has said.
