Nod for 220 MW GAIL power plant
For setting up a 220 MW gas-based power plant at Raigad in Maharashtra, GAIL India has received environmental clearance. The government-owned firm plans to use one million standard cubic metre per day of natural gas to generate 220 MW of electricity at the proposed combined cycle power plant. The plant is being installed at a cost of Rs 1,028 crore. The power generated at the plant will be sold to Maharashtra.
Power generation capacity crosses 2.29 lakh MW
India´s total installed capacity of the power sector stood at 2,29,252 MW by 31 October last year, with the private sector contributing a significant 72,927 MW and including 12 per cent from renewable sources. Adani generates highest power at Mundra plant
Adani Power has attained the highest power generation of 4,644 MW at its Mundra plant in Gujarat. It is India´s largest thermal private power generator. With this, it is the only power station of such a gigantic size to reach a significant milestone in electricity production. The Mundra plant has five units of 660 MW and four units of 330 MW each.
Power System Development Fund approved
The government approved the proposal of the Ministry of Power for operationalisation of the Power System Development Fund (PSDF). This will be utilised for creating necessary transmission systems of strategic importance based on operational feedback by Load Dispatch Centers for relieving congestion in Inter-State Transmission Systems, according to Finance Minister P Chidambaram.
Energy conservation awards
President Pranab Mukherjee handed over the prizes to several industrial units and other establishments for their innovative efforts in enhancing their energy performance. The awardees represented industries, thermal power stations, office buildings, hotels, hospitals, shopping malls, etc.
India Cements gets Govt’s nod for expansion
The Union Ministry of Environment has given its nod to India Cements to double its capacity and set up a 40 mw power plant in Tamil Nadu's Dalavoi in Ariyalur district.
Union govt gives aid to set up bioenergy plants
For exploring the potential of bio-energy, the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has formulated the following Schemes:
i. Biomass Power and Biomass Cogeneration in Sugar Mills. ii. Biogas Power Generation Programme (BPGP). iii. Biomass Gasifier Programme. iv. Waste to Energy Programme. v. National Biogas and Manure Management Programme (NBMMP). vi. Biomass Cogeneration Non-bagasse.
