Under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme, the Union government has set a target to complete Rs 33,688 crore projects by June 2016 to improve infrastructure in the country's North Eastern region. Fernandes inaugurates 2-lane flyover in Guwahati
In Assam's Guwahati city, the recently completed 2-lane flyover on NH-37 near Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport near VIP Chowk was inaugurated and dedicated to the Nation by the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Oscar Fernandes. The commissioning of this flyover is expected to ease the traffic congestion at Airport Junction point to a great extent as it would facilitate uninterrupted plying of vehicles coming from Goalpara side across the flyover towards Guwaha
Work started on Mulavukadu-Ernakulam road in Kochi
The Goshree Island Development Authority (GIDA) has taken measures to complete the much-delayed 5.5 km-long Mulavukadu-Ernakulam road. Following public protests against the delay in executing the project, GIDA officials along with the consultant inspected the site to take a decision to restart construction activities on Thursday. The authority will also submit a report to the district collector. After completing the first stage, the authority will focus on the second phase between Pattalam camp
Rs 17,802 cr spent on road works in Bangalore
The Bangalore City Corporation has spent Rs 17,802 crore on asphalting roads, said Yediyur councillor NR Ramesh. Speaking at the council meeting, Ramesh said that from 2003 to 2007, the then Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) had spent Rs 6,460.76 crore. Interestingly, there were only three zones at the time. Five more zones were added in 2007 and the BMP became BBMP or Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike. During the period (2007-10), when the administrator was in charge of BBMP, it spent Rs 8,798
No road connectivity to 7,000 MP villages
In Madhya Pradesh, residents of Karadia village in Sehore district fear a lot of monsoon- because heavy rain maroons the village and in absence of road connectivity it remains cut off from the mainland. Efforts by villagers to apprise local administration and elected representatives about the problem have failed to yield positive results. Like inhabitants of 7,000 villages that have no connectivity with mainland, villagers in Karadia wake up with a prayer- no one in the village should fall ill.
Public cooperation sought for road works in Nagaland
Nagaland Commissioner and Secretary Home and Works & Housing Temjen Toy, on August 1 admitted that the works and housing (Roads & Bridges) department has not been able to maintain roads due to financial and other factors but at the same time, reminded public of their role in extending cooperation for the greater interest of all.
Minister questions delay in Panipat-Jalandhar road project
Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on August 1 questioned the inordinate and unexplained delay in completion of the six-laning project of the Panipat-Jalandhar national highway, which is the main cause of tragic accidents leading to many deaths. In a statement issued here, Tewari said most of the accidents along this stretch were taking place primarily because of incomplete roads.
Rain exposes quality of road works in Hubli
In Hubli, the recent rains have made the lives of vehicle-users and pedestrians miserable, thanks to the severe beating several roads have taken. Major roads in the city have either caved in or developed huge potholes, because of the poor quality of repair works.

In Chennai, the Anna Nagar link road project, which has been making a tardy progress over the past four years, finally seems to be heading towards completion with the construction of the bridge across the Uyyakondan river reaching the finishing stages. The link road will be completed in the next three months, sources said. The civic body has drawn much flak, from residents and the elected representatives over the execution of the project which has been progressing in fits and starts since 2009.
Haryana seeks Centre’s nod for 4 new road projects
For four new mega projects of road network and sewerage system for Faridabad, the Haryana government has sought Centre's nod. The project work
is involving an estimated cost of Rs 495.13 crore. The approval has been sought under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). This was informed in second meeting of State-level Steering Committee on JNNURM chaired by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Chandigarh on August 1.
