Mumbai civic body awards Rs 620 cr worth road works

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation standing committee has awarded road construction and repair contracts worth around Rs 620 crore on February 25. Interestingly, the biggest contract - worth Rs 181 crore - was awarded to a firm called RPS Infra Projects, which has been blacklisted by BMCÂ’s buildings department for allegedly submitting fake bills in aproject around a year ago.

Foundation was laid for the longest stretch of road built under the Prime Minister's Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) from Miao to Vijaynagar in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on February 19. Union Minister for Rural Development JairamRamesh laid the foundation. The 157-km road, which will be built under the PMGSY will pass through the Namdapha National Park and is scheduled to be completed within the next three years.

Highway developers may get compensation for delays

The Union government on February 19 deliberated on providing compensation to road project developers for delays in obtaining environment clearances and land acquisition, besides providing early exits to highway developers. The issues were discussed in a meeting between the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the National Highways Authority of India.
