The Virugambakkam ResidentsÂ’ Welfare Association submitted a petition to the Chennai Corporation Mayor Saidai Samiyappan Duraisamy to facilitate the road widening work on Kaliamman Koil Street, Virugambakkam, at the earliest, at a public consultation meeting. As per the Development Rights Certificate, an additional Floor Space Index (FSI) will be allocated.

When the road is widened, traffic congestion will reduce considerably on Jawaharlal Nehru Road and Arcot Road. The street is a link road for KK Nagar, Valasaravakkam, Porur and Vadapalani, the area residents said. The stretch is the worst-hit in terms of vehicular traffic. It is difficult to negotiate the thoroughfare during peak hours. The volume of vehicular traffic is more than 5,000 on any given day, the residents said. The Chennai Corporation has agreed to redesign the proposed Arcot Road-Kalaignar Karunanidhi Nagar 80-feet road flyover and extend it for another 1.3 km.

By redesigning the existing plan, it will be extended beyond Reddy street covering Vembuli Amman temple junction and Virugambakkam church junction. At the recently held public consultation meeting with Chennai Corporation Mayor Saidai Samiyappan Duraisamy on the proposed flyover on Arcot Road – Kalaignar Karunanidhi Nagar 80 Feet Road, The Virugambakkam Residents’ Welfare Association submitted a petition to the Mayor to facilitate the road widening work on Kaliamman Koil Street, Virugambakkam, at the earliest.
