Cochin Shipyard-built Aadesh vessel, the first of the series of 20 Fast Patrol Vessels (FPV) for the Indian Coast Guard, was commissioned in Kochi last week. Two ships of the class have been delivered to the Coast Guard and the third would also be delivered by the end of the month, the Cochin Shipyard said.
Aadesh vessel, the 50-m long indigenous FPVÂ’s displaces 290 tonne and can achieve a maximum speed of 33 knots with water jet propulsion.
FPVs make an ideal platform for undertaking multifarious close coast missions such as surveillance, interdiction, search and rescue and medical evacuation, say media reports.
