Odisha-based Paradip Port Trust (PPT) plans to raise its cargo handling capacity from 80 million metric tonne to 143 million metric tonne by the year 2015 and to 252 million metric tonne by 2020 through a host of capacity expansion projects, the port said in its website.
Towards this goal, the port plans to deepen channel and berths’ to handle Cape size vessels (i.e. up to 1, 25,000 DWT size), develop a new deep draught Iron ore terminal and a new deep draught coal terminal on BOT basis through PPP mode to handle 10 mn tpa each of iron ore and coal respectively.
It also plans to construct a multipurpose berth on BOT basis through PPP Mode to handle containers and other clean cargoes of 5 mn tpa, besides setting up an oil jetty of 10 mn tpa. Other projects planned by the port include installation of 2nd and 3rd Single Point Mooring each of 11 mn tpa, development of Western Dock System of 75 MTPA, mechanization and modernization of the existing Berths etc.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the port management plans to engage a contractor for shifting of existing 33/11 kv control room at Harbanki and 33 kv power supply at BOT terminals. It also plans to hire a contractor for procurement of sealing lead and sealing wire. Besides, it is looking out for a contractor for enhancement of draught in the central dock basin.
