The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has pointed out cost over-run of more than Rs.1.07 lakh crore in 442 ongoing projects of Indian Railways. This includes projects for construction of new lines, doubling of existing lines and gauge conversion audited for the period between 2009 and 2014. ¨Audit observed overall cost overrun of Rs.1.07 lakh crore and throw-forward of Rs.1.86 lakh crore in 442 ongoing projects. Seventy-five projects were ongoing for more than 15 years and of them, three were 30 years old,¨ the auditor said in a report tabled in Parliament.
