Vijay Kalantri, Chairman and Managing Director of Dighi Port informed that the port would set up the remaining three berths as part of the phase one of the project by December 2014.
The green field port is being developed in Raigad district of Maharashtra. It may be recalled that the port authority has already constructed two berths out of the five envisaged in the first phase of the project.
The port, which planned to invest Rs 2,500 crore on phase one of the project, has already invested Rs 1,500 crore by now.
Earlier, some media reports hinted that the Maharashtra government, which technically owns the port, has decided to “scale down” the port project located in Raigad district.
Responding to these report, Kalantri indicated that it is not the port but the adjoining Dighi Industrial Area Township, being developed by the government as a part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone, which is being scaled down.
