Media reports say that five trucks were damaged in a fire that broke out at the Chennai Port Trust complex on May 19 evening. No one was injured in the fire which occurred in a shed where the trucks were parked, Port Fire officials said. While the cause of the incident was under investigation, officials suspect that excessive heat in the shed could have resulted in sparks, leading to fire.
Five lorries, about 50 tyres and some other scrap stored there were damaged, they said, adding that the fire was put off by fire tenders.
