Private developers who are delaying the construction of affordable housing units in Jaipur received a warning from the state government’s urban housing and development (UDH) department.
The developers were asked to complete the project by end of July or else lose the security money. The department said it would transfer the security money to Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) for carrying out work.
In June 2009, the state government launched affordable housing scheme under public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Under various models, the state government plans to develop 5 lakh affordable houses for the economically weaker section (EWS), lower income group (LIG) and middle income group (MIG) categories.
Some reports suggest that in the three-and-half years, not a single allottee has been given possession. The target of the government was to construct and provide 1 lakh houses every year. The government aimed to construct around 10,000 flats under eight schemes in the city.
The JDA recently also slapped notices on developers who are hesitant and showing lack of initiative for the project.
