The telecom operators that have won spectrum in March auction paid a sum of their dues to the government. Till now, the Government had received a total of around Rs 10,000 crore. However, it was not immediately clear, which telecom firms had paid the full amount or made partial payments.

In this current exercise, Bharti Airtel Ltd. had paid around Rs 5,000 crore while Idea Cellular Ltd had paid around Rs 2,000 crore. Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd and Tata Teleservices Ltd´s were expected to pay later. With this, the government is likely to arrest the fiscal deficit targets accounting for the money in the financial year that just ended.

According to the auction rules, telcom firms can pay for the spectrum that they have won within 10 days of declaration of the results of the auction.
