Just like Maharashtra, the power loom sector is demanding for the electricity tariff to be brought down. While Maharashtra is paying less than 3.50 per unit for electricity, the power loom sector has been shedding Rs 7.30 per unit. Gujarat industries commissioner was requested to reduce the power tariff for the power loom sector by textile entrepreneurs. It was also mentioned to make the Surat manufactured fabric competitive enough with Maharashtra and RajasthanÂ’s fabric as the fabric manufactured in Surat is about Rs 5 per metre more expensive.
