Gujarat Ambuja to use NMPT for shipment of its products

Gujarat Ambuja Exports decided to use the New Mangalore Port (NMPT) in Karnataka for shipment of its products to Sudan in Africa.

The company decided to use the port for moving its export consignments after the recent visit of Manish Kumar Gupta, Managing Director and Prashanth Pillai, DGM of the company.

The company officials held discussion with port officials, logistic providers, customs house agents (CHA) and main line operators.

The company plans to ship around 100 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of its products through NMPT every month.

The company recently exported its first containerized cargo of liquid glucose in high-density poly-ethylene barrels through the port. The cargo was manufactured at their plant at Shiggaon taluk of Haveri district and has been transported to NMPT in 25 containers for shipment to Sudan in Africa in MV Tiger Mango which berthed at the Port recently.

The entire operation was carried out by handling agents, M/s Cargolinks and M/s Maersk, the CHA. The loading of the above consignment was completed and the vessel sailed out.

According to NMPT officials, the increase in frequency of container vessels has resulted in efficient handling of containers. As on date, during 2012-13, the port has handled 45,265 TEUs as against 43,278 TEUs handled during the corresponding period of previous year, registering a growth rate of 4.59 per cent, official figures show.
