IL&FS Group has had a long association with the infrastructure sector specifically in the promotion and development of greenfield projects. The Group’s maritime division IL&FS Maritime Infrastructure Company Ltd (IMICL) is taking forward the Group’s vision in the sector and entering a new dimension with two of its projects soon to be commissioned in India and UAE, crossing geographic boundaries.

Port Based Oil Logistics Infrastructure at Fujairah UAE

This is a window of opportunity for shippers, traders and free zone operators alike as a tank terminal for storage of oil products at Fujairah, UAE, is nearing completion and would be commissioned before the end of this year and would be open to offer storage services to Multi-users. The terminal, known as the IL&FS Prime Tank Terminal, marks the presence of the infrastructure major in the UAE’s oil logistic hub which is also the second largest bunkering facility in the world and fast becoming a trading hub for the Middle East and North Africa region.

The Phase-1 of the terminal with a capacity of over 300,000 cbm comprises of fourteen storage tanks of capacities ranging between 5,000 – 40,000 cbm. Once complete, the terminal can handle Heavy Fuel Oil, Fuel Oil, Gas Oil, Diesel, Jet Fuel, Gasoline, Cutter Stock, MTBE, Ethanol and similar products.The terminal offers various services such as customized blending, circulation and additivation facilities, heating, truck loading bays, piggable pipelines, inter-tank and inter-terminal transfer facilities. The provision of dedicated connectivity to multiple jetties at the Port of Fujairah can facilitate simultaneous berthing, loading and unloading operations.

The terminal has a dedicated connectivity to the Port of Fujairah that can cater to capesize vessels. The terminal is one of the fastest to have come up in Fujairah and has already set safety benchmarks with more than one million man hour free of any Lost Time Incidents.

An elaborate tank safety arrangement with water sprinklers and foam pourers, automatic tank gauging systems and terminal automation are all designed to carry forward an environmentally friendly, safe and fully automated operation.

Catering to growing maritime needs in Western India

Dighi Port is one of the first private sector non-major ports in Maharashtra with a development plan to create a 70 million ton/ annum port facility. Amongst the five berths being currently developed by Dighi Port Ltd (DPL) IMICL has taken the initiative to develop 2 berths, Berth # 4 and 5, with an aggregate capacity of 11 MTPA, on the North bank of Dighi Port in the Rajpuri creek (Agardanda), Raigad District.

The soon to be commissioned berth, also known as the IMICL Dighi Berth 4, is strategically located just 42 NM south of Mumbai and will cater to a huge hinterland covering northern and central Maharashtra and southern Madhya Pradesh. With a capacity of 5.5 MTPA the berth has adequate capability for handling coal, steel coils, bauxite, fertiliser raw material and other dry bulk commodities. It shall operate on 24×7 basis and with a planned draft of 14.0 meters, will be capable of handling Panamax gearless vessels.

IMICL Dighi Berth 4 length is 325 m, width 34.5 m with planned draft of 14.0 m. The backup facilities include a storage yard capacity of 6,00,000 MTs, two mobile harbour cranes of 100 MTs capacity with 30 CBM grabs, hoppers, dust suppression and fire fighting systems, dedicated handling equipment and warehouse. The terminal with its green, efficient and sustainable operations and Terminal Management System is to provide single window service to its customers.

IMICL Dighi Berths are connected through SH 92/96 road (44 kms) to NH 17 (Mumbai-Goa Highway) at Indapur. The rail connectivity to the terminal is currently under implementation. The completed project is envisaged to be a game changer in the Western maritime sector.
