The new route deepens IndiGo’s footprint in Europe, following its long-haul debut earlier this year with flights to Manchester in the UK, and to Amsterdam and Copenhagen in mainland Europe.
IndiGo, India’s largest airline by fleet and passenger volume, has announced the launch of direct, daily flights between Mumbai and London Heathrow Airport, marking a strategic milestone in its global expansion. Services will commence on October 26, making Heathrow IndiGo’s 45th international and 138th overall destination.
The new route strengthens IndiGo’s presence in Europe, following its long-haul debut earlier this year with flights to Manchester in the UK, and to Amsterdam and Copenhagen in Continental Europe. Heathrow, Europe’s busiest aviation hub, offers unmatched connectivity to the UK, Europe, and transatlantic markets, making it a critical gateway for Indian business and leisure travellers.
The flights will be operated using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on wet lease from Norse Atlantic Airways, featuring a dual-class configuration: Economy and IndiGoStretch. The premium cabin offers enhanced legroom, reclinable seating, priority check-in, and curated amenities, including sustainable kits, sleep sprays, and signature Indian snacks. All passengers will enjoy complimentary hot meals and inflight entertainment, with alcoholic beverages available for purchase in the economy and complimentary in IndiGoStretch classes.
“Entering Heathrow is both a proud milestone and a strategic step forward in strengthening IndiGo’s global footprint,” said Pieter Elbers, CEO, IndiGo. “This route reinforces our commitment to seamless connectivity between India and the world, especially across the high-demand India-UK corridor.”
Ross Baker, Chief Customer Officer at Heathrow, added, “This new daily service will further strengthen the vital ties between the UK and India, creating opportunities for trade, tourism and cultural exchange.”
The Mumbai-Heathrow route is expected to serve a wide spectrum of travellers, including students, business professionals, and the Indian diaspora. It also provides inbound passengers with seamless access to 90 plus domestic destinations and several international routes across South Asia, Southeast Asia, and90-plus Central Asia via IndiGo’s extensive network.
