Planning Commission was directed to convene a meeting of all the chief ministers of the north-eastern states to expedite key infrastructure projects. The meeting is intended to improve inter-state coordination for speedy completion of the projects. The government decided to set up an empowered group to ensure speedy upgradation of overall infrastructure in the region. For the development of railway network in the north east, the centre allotted Rs 600 crore. This includes an additional funding of Rs 400 crore to complete three critical rail projects before March 2014 and allotment of up to Rs 200 crore for two more projects.
