An audit by the Jammu and Kashmir government has revealed that road projects under Central Road Fund (CRF) in Kashmir division are in limbo or have been delayed.

The State Public Works (R&B) Department has spent only Rs 7,042 lakh out of the allotted Rs 20,362 lakh in 2011.

In 2012, out of Rs 4,763 lakhs outlay, only Rs 190 lakh has been released to the state. The audit titled ‘Central Road Fund (CRF), 2011-12’ reveals that major road projects are in a limbo or have been delayed due to department’s failure in getting clearance from forest department or laying of services.

At least 37 projects were to be undertaken under CRF in Valley, the audit says. The audit reveals that work on Ranga Sangam to Amar Nath Cave in district Ganderbal was stopped for want of forest clearance. The approved cost for the scheme was Rs 1,997 lakh but the State government has spent just Rs 185 lakh. The progress percentage of the project is 10 per cent.

According to the audit, development of north-south corridor (left track) from Police Station Soura Srinagar to Pandach was delayed due to the laying of services.
