Luxman Radhakrishnan, Chairman of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) informed that the port was finalising a fresh tender for the proposed 4.8 million tonne a year (mn tpa) container terminal by making some changes in the old tender.
The port authority decided to call fresh tender for the project after a consortium of Singapore-based port operator PSA International failed to sign the concession agreement with JNPT within the extended deadline (October). Following this, the port authority terminated the contract with the consortium.
It is learnt that the port plans to float a fresh tender for the fourth terminal project in the next couple of months. The new tender will have some changes in the terms and conditions.
JNPT is expected to complete the first phase of its dredging project across a 34 km channel by June 2014. This will widen the channel by up to 370 metre and deepen by up to 14 metre, thereby allowing vessels with 6,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEUs) capacity, Radhakrishnan said.
