Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) did not receive must response from private players for its proposed Rs 1,700-crore project to build 4 berths at Salukhali.

The company planned to execute the project under Public Private Partnership (PPP) model and had floated tender inviting Request for Proposal (RFP) from private players.

However, it did not receive response from private firms for the project, which would have added 23.4 million tonne (mn t) cargo capacity.

The port is said to be having 160 acre land from the state government for the project. Also, KoPT has nod from the public private partnership appraisal committee (PPPAC) for the project.

This might be drop out of HBT’s pull out from Haldia citing law-and order issues. HBT, a JV between homegrown ABG Infralogistics and French company Louis Dreyfus Armateurs, had signed a contract with KoPT to operate 2 mechanized berths in existing Haldia Dock till 2020, reports indicate.

HBT had alleged “vested interest” in diversion of cargo to the expensive manual berths, run by former Trinamool Member of Parliament (MP) Swapan Sadhan Bose promoted Ripley & Company.

KoPT has decided to go for re-tendering to find a operator in two mechanised berths in its Haldia port after failing to get a substitute for HBT in the first attempt.
