For the first time, a Hyderabad city road Erragadda-JNTU, Kukatpally stretch is being widened to 200 feet (60 metres) by the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). If the road is expanded to 200 ft as per the master plan, it may become the widest road in city.

Though half-a-dozen roads were proposed to be widened to 200 ft in the master plan for metro rail, like the Inner Ring Road from Tarnaka to Chandrayangutta and Gachibowli to Miyapur via Hafeezpet, they were confined to 150 ft during the road expansion exercise due to stiff resistance from property owners, sources said.

Even the arterial SP Road was confined to 150 ft, while some busy stretches like Khairatabad are merely 100 ft though the metro rail would eventually pass through it.

GHMC officials said the existing width of the road between Erragadda and Miyapur was between 100 ft and 120 ft and the carriageway was sufficient for taking up metro rail works for corridor-I (Miyapur to LB Nagar). The metro rail project developer L&T has already begun the work.
