The mechanisation of cargo handling facilities in the Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) would increase the cargo handling capacity of the port by additional 50 million tonne per annum, Ajeya Kallam, Chairman of the port informed reporters.
The port recently commissioned the Rs 444.1 crore mechanised coal handling facility of Vedanta Resources at VPT. Following this, the outer harbour would be totally clean and prevent vehicular movement which spreads coal particle pollution, Kallam said.
It is learnt that mechanisation of the new facility would ensure highest discharge rate, reduced pre-berthing delay and reduction in operational cost.
