Union petroleum ministry said it would continue to protect the government’s interest in all force in the matter of Reliance Industries’ (RIL) operation in KG D6 basin.
The ministry said this in a statement issued in response to the allegation of Arvind Kejriwal who spearheads the “India Against Corruption” campaign. Kejriwal alleged that Mukesh Ambani exercised enormous influence on the oil ministry.
In the statement, the ministry said it rejected the company’s proposal to raise natural gas prices before 2014 was rejected two years ago. It said issues raised by the company about auditing the KG-D6 block would soon be resolved.
The system is not influenced or guided by whims and fancies of any individual or group of individuals. The ministry will continue to function and take decisions and firmness after due diligence and strict adherence to principles of transparency and probity, it said.
The oil ministry also said that the director general of hydrocarbons is critically examining a new proposal from Reliance Industries that reduces the estimate of gas reserves in the controversial D6 block to 3.3 trillion cubic feet, or one-third the original projection, and cuts capital expenditure by 25 percent to $6.6 billion.
It said Reliance submitted the new field development plan in September this year.
