Maharashtra Natural Gas (MNGL) has identified locations for setting up 20 additional CNG pumps across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad in order to meet the rising demand for CNG.
The new pumps would be set up in Yerawada, Vimannagar, Kharadi, old Mumbai-Pune highway, Baner, Pune Satara road and Sinhgad road among others.
Earlier, the agency planned to open eight CNG pumps in Pune commission four of them this July. Later, it identified additional 15 to 20 locations in Pune and nearby areas where additional CNG pumps will be set up.
Some reports, however, indicate that MNGL may decide on the number of punps based on the techno-commercial feasibility.
MNGL may seek land on long-term lease from private land owners and offer them dealerships of these gas stations. It also plans to strengthen the supply pattern in 13 of its existing stations.
The district administration is promoting the use of CNG extensively, while the civic body gives subsidy to three-wheelers for installing CNG kits. In fact, the civic body converted 19 of its garbage dumpers to CNG.
MNGL wants to increase the number of pumps as it found that there is a growing shift towards CNG. Even the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal (PMPML) is planning to ply CNG buses on city roads.
