Indore Development Authority (IDA) has once again sent a request to the Madhya Pradesh government to reconsider and keep the width of road to 18 metre against the proposed 24 metre in the master plan. The IDA’s request follows as it is unable to get sufficient land and remove encroachments coming in the way of the proposed LIG link road.

IDA’s budget for 2013-14 has provided Rs 5 crore for the construction of this important link road which will connect AB Road to Ring Road and is will also expectedly reduce the traffic on BRTS. IDA CEO Deepak Singh said that in the interest of the city, the board has decided to send in the request to the State government to consider reducing the width of the link road.

IDA and Town and Country Planning (TnCP) have been disputing for some time over width of the proposed LIG link road. TnCP has long maintained that the width of the road was fixed at 24 metre in the master plan prepared in 1975 and it should not be tampered with. On this scorching issue, the TnCP is yet to assign its approval for the link road layout.

IDA had started construction work in 2011 on the road and they want to keep the width of the road as 18 meters as they are finding it difficult to get the land. Officials believe that if stress is put on constructing a 24 metres wide road, then this important link rod would never be completed.
