Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), which is in taking efforts to diversify its cargo handling, asked traders from north Karnataka to make use of the port.

In order to woo traders, the port in association with Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Hubli, had organized a trade meet. The meet is intended to sensitize traders from the region on the facilities available at the port, MPT.

Requesting traders to make use of the facilities, Chairman of MPT P Mara Pandiyan elaborated on various projects that were in progress for the development of the port. He assured traders that they would be given a smooth passage for their consignments.

Its effort to cut down transport cost, MPT officials were in touch with authorities concerned to give a competitive price for the logistic, he said.

The port would provide any kind of service on one-to-one basis to cater to the needs of existing and emerging entrepreneurs and exporters.

Deputy Chairman of MPT Biplav Kumar said by utilizing the services at the port, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh were exporting nearly 35,000 million tonne (mn t) of wheat. Maize was also being exported through the port in large quantity, he said.
