Net profit of Essar Ports rose 48 percent to Rs 101.4 crore during April-June 2013 from Rs 68.5 crore in the year-ago period.
The port announced 22 per cent growth in revenue at Rs 403.7 crore during the quarter under consideration from Rs 330.3 crore in the corresponding period last year.
Cargo volume of the firm rose to 14 million tonne during the quarter from 12.65 million tonne in the year-ago period.
Its third party cargo volumes (cargoes from non-Essar Group companies) stood at about 3 per cent.
The company expects this to touch between 5 to 7 per cent by this year-end.
The third party cargoes may account for about 25 per cent of its throughput in the next three years when its new terminals go on stream, reports indicate.
The firm, which has a cargo handling capacity of 104 million tonne at present, expects it to increase to 185 million tonne in the next three years.
The company secured contracts to operate three iron ore berths at Visakhapatnam port with a capacity ot 23 million tonne. There is a scope to increase it to 30 million tonne.
