The Karnataka government is to bring pressure on the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to complete the signal free elevated road to Bangalore International Airport (BIA) at the earliest. Members in the State Legislature on June 11 raised a hue and cry over the inordinate delay in completing the elevated stretch on the 22-kilometre BIA Road.

The State Minister for Public Works Department HC Mahadevappa stated in the State Legislature Council that he would soon convene a meeting with officials of NHAI and ask them to get the work done speedily. On the flip side, Bangalore in recent times is named for its worst traffic problems. He said the elevated road work was getting delayed for long time owing to hiccups in land acquisition.

As soon as the flyover work is done, it would facilitate a signal-free corridor to BIA from the city. The NHAI has taken up the work of upgrading a 22-kilometre stretch on BIA Road. The land acquisition process in the vicinity of Air Force station, army land, Jakkur Aerodrome is being delayed and work is going slowly, he maintained.
