Uttar Pradesh government-appointed panel has proposed to implement the Rs 1,800 crore metro rail project in Lucknow by securing 50 percent funding from the central government.
The state government appointed a high-level committee headed by Chief Secretary Jawed Usmani to work out the details of the project.
At a recent meeting, the committee proposed to implement the metro rail project on a 50:50 sharing of funds between the central government and the state government, on the lines of the Delhi Metro project.
During the meeting, the panel also cleared the report prepared by the special Metro cell and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials.
For implementation of the project, Usmani proposed to set up a special purpose vehicle (SPV), Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation, on an urgent basis.
In the first phase, construction of the North South corridor (from Amausi to Munshi Pulia) would be taken up and this would include about 3-km stretch of underground track from Charbgah up to Hazratganj.
The underground track would reduce the construction cost by about Rs 1,000 crore. Earlier, the route proposed 7 km of underground railway track from Mawaiyya till Lucknow University.
