These systems enable seamless evacuation of renewable energy from Kurnool and Ananthpuram to the National Grid.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday dedicated two transmission projects and laid the foundation stone for another of the state‑run transmission utility POWERGRID in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on August 1.
The two commissioned projects include the transmission system for the Kurnool wind and solar energy zone, developed at an investment of about ₹35.47 billion, and the transmission system for the solar energy zone in Ananthpuram (2,500 MW) and Kurnool (1,000 MW), developed at an investment of about ₹8.23 billion. These systems have been built to enable seamless evacuation of renewable energy from the Kurnool and Ananthpuram zones to beneficiaries across the National Grid.
Modi also laid the foundation stone for the transmission system to integrate the first phase of the 4.5 GW Kurnool‑IV renewable energy zone, to be developed at an investment of about ₹55.50 billion. The project will strengthen the transmission network for integrating an additional 4.5 GW of renewable energy from the Kurnool zone into the National Grid.
The commissioning of the two projects and the foundation stone laying of the Kurnool‑IV REZ transmission system mark another step in strengthening India’s green energy infrastructure. Together, these systems will facilitate the transfer of renewable energy nationwide and contribute significantly to achieving India’s target of 500 GW of non‑fossil fuel‑based installed capacity by 2030.
