The proposed wharf project at at Mangalore Old Port is estimated to cost around Rs 44.5 crore, Lakshadweep MP Muhammad Hamdullah Sayeed informed reporters.
The Lakshadweep government proposed to construct the wharf at the port and expects to begin work on it once the Karnataka government clears the proposal.
The proposal suggests the establishment of a 300-metre-long dedicated wharf for the Lakshadweep administration at Old Mangalore Port. Apart from anchoring ships, the wharf will also help in the embarking of passengers and loading and unloading of cargoes. Sayeed hopes that the project would be a major boost for the people of Lakshadweep and Mangalore.
The amount of construction will be borne by both Lakshadweep and Karnataka.
