Rajasthan’s Neemrana is going to have a new airport.
The Union government is planning to set up the airport city near Neemrana, bang in between Delhi and Jaipur, a move that’s likely to spur real estate and infrastructure development in the region. Over the last few years, Gurgaon has been expanding in the direction of Neemrana, with areas like Manesar already becoming hubs of industrial and housing activity.
The new ‘aerotropolis’ that will be spread over 24 sq kilometers or 2,400 hectares of land is expected to further quicken pace of expansion and growth in this area as well as become a gateway to the tourist destinations of Rajasthan.
The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC), which has initiated the project with the Rajasthan government, is also developing a large township at Khushkheda-Bhiwadi-Neemrana along the 1,483 km industrial corridor that it is building between Delhi and Mumbai.
This will be among the seven cities DMICDC is planning along the corridor. A Civil Aviation Ministry official said the DMICDC and Rajasthan government have discussed the proposal with the ministry. They have been asked to do a feasibility study on the impact of this airport on the existing one in Delhi.
