Fear of Reliance Infrastructure exiting Haryana’s maiden toll road project – the Gurgaon-Faridabad highway — looms large as the company has been incurring a daily revenue loss of at least Rs 10-Rs 12 lakh since trucks are not paying toll charges and also damaging toll plazas.
About 4,000 trucks are not paying toll, making their venture unviable, sources said. Local truck unions have stopped paying toll for months since tolling started, and this constitutes about 50 per cent of the total revenue that the company would have made.
Sudhir Hoshing, CEO of roads business, Reliance Infrastructure said that the project is becoming financially unviable since Reliance is losing huge revenue despite bagging the contract paying Rs 100 crore as a one-time premium to the State government.
The company has been seeking government’s intervention to sort out the issue. It bagged the project to run it. But the company is yet to even recover the premium that it has paid to the State government, he added.
