Reliance Industries (RIL) has blamed the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) for the delay in developing gas blocks in KG-D6 in Andhra Pradesh. DGH has asked RIL to give up 6,601 sq km out of the total 7,645 sq km area in the block on the grounds that the time line to develop the fields had expired.

RIL Director PMS Prasad on August 24 wrote to the Union Oil Ministry and questioned the intention of the Directorate in asking RIL to give up the blocks. According to Prasad’s letter, the DGH wants to take back the 86 per cent of KG-D6 block area, including eight gas discoveries worth $10 billion. The DGH has termed the block area and the eight block areas as ‘arbitrary’.

Prasad said the oil regulator was responsible for the delay in developing the finds. He asked the government to advise the authorities concerned to rectify the errors and remove the hurdles which are needlessly delaying further progression in the KG-D6 discoveries.
