The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) has proposed installation of 1,455 high-tech cameras under the Smart City project to enhance the city’s traffic management system and ensure the safety of commuters at an estimated cost of Rs.699 million.
The selected locations include 43 busy intersections and roundabouts, which will be equipped with advanced cameras featuring pan tilt zoom (PTZ), red light vehicle detection, public address systems, surveillance junction and speed violation technology.
The intelligent traffic management system (ITMS) includes features like traffic control, red-light violation detection, no-helmet detection, triple-riding detection and automatic number plate readers (ANPR) linked to FASTag at 16 points.
The ANPR cameras will capture images of speeding vehicles and traffic violators and challans will be sent directly to the driver’s address.
To monitor the ITMS effectively, a 24×7 command centre will be established, equipped with a giant LED screen. The setup cost for the command centre itself is estimated to be Rs 55 million.
