To improve road connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh, the Union government has approved a network of roads and bridges at a cost of Rs 819 crore. The Union Rural Development Ministry's decision in this regard comes just ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Beijing and it emphasises the strategic importance of the bordering state over parts of which China lays claim.

Better road connectivity key to development: Governor
For overall development of Arunachal Pradesh better road connectivity is essential in the state, the State Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma emphasised. Addressing the 62nd plenary of the North Eastern Council (NEC) at New Delhi on July 16, the governor said that the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is assigned responsibility for implementation of roads in Arunachal Pradesh through Vartak, Bramkank, Udayak and Arunank projects, a Raj Bhawan communiqué said in Itanagar on July 17.
Jindal Power projects in Arunachal face hindrances
In Arunachal Pradesh, the three hydro power projects of more than 5,000 mw capacity, undertaken by Naveen JindalÂ’s Jindal Power (JPL), are likely to take at least 10 more years to get commissioned. This is mainly on account of delays in getting regulatory approvals and funding. The proposed run-of-the-river projects, with envisaged investments of nearly Rs 50,000 crore, include the 3,097 mw Etalin project, the 680 mw Attunli project and the 1,600 mw project at middle Subansiri.
India yet to decide on opening Stilwell Road
Retired Gen JJ Singh, former chief of IndiaÂ’s army and now governor of the frontier state of Arunachal Pradesh, has strongly pushed for reopening of the World War II-era Stilwell Road as potential commercial benefits are weighed against national security concerns. He argues that it should be opened to enable trade and traffic with Burma and China.
AAI is preparing DPR for Itanagar airport: Ajit Singh
For the proposed airport in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR), sources concerned said on April 26. Besides, the AAI is in the process of obtaining environmental and other clearances for the proposed airport.
Arunachal’s Sekong village gets road under PMGSY
In Arunachal pradesh, Sekong, a remote village under Lada circle in East Kameng district, has finally been connected by road under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY). The 25-km road, leading to Sekong village from Richukrong, a remote circle, was constructed by the Rural Works Department, Seppa with an estimated cost of Rs 19 crore.
