Paradeep Port Trust (PPT) has recorded 5.23 per cent growth in its total cargo in April-December period of 2015-16. The port´s cargo traffic in the period rose from 52.39 million tonne (MnT) to 55.13 MnT.

As a result of the capacity constraints being faced by the major ports, cargo is diverted to the private ports due to locational advantages, high operating efficiency, superior cargo handling equipment and investment in large capacity creation.
More than 36 PPP projects have been successfully launched
As such there is no diversion of cargo from the major ports to the non-major ports. As far as the traffic at major ports is concerned, there is consistent traffic flow and is largely on the increasing trend. However, non-major ports are also attracting cargo due to being captive ports and having no regulatory mechanism like TAMP, etc.
JNPT on course to achieving fiscal target
The largest container port in India, JNPT, has achieved around 48 per cent of its targeted 4.7 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit of cargo capacity) during the first six months of the current fiscal. JNPT sources said that they are confident of achieving the target this fiscal.
IOC sells rare Kandla cargo
Indian Oil Corporation has sold 18,000-20,000 tonnes of naphtha for Oct 29 to Nov 3 loading from Kandla after cancelling a previous tender for the same cargo due to low bids, traders said.

Rise in Chidambaranar port´s cargo
The VO Chidambaranar port in Tuticorin has achieved an all-time record cargo traffic of 32.41 million tonnes during 2014-15, an increase of 13.17 per cent over last year.
Mumbai Port handles all time high cargo
Surpassing the previous high of 59.19 Metric Million Tons of cargo handled in the year 2013-14, the Mumbai Port Trust in March created a new record of handling all time high cargo in its 141 years long history.
Gazing into the Big Budget
The industry estimates that falling crude oil prices, lower fuel subsidies along with recent diesel tax hikes could together add almost Rs 1.1 trillion to the Union Budget.
