Govt to decide on green nod before auctioning 54 blocks
Government would soon decide on whether to secure environment and forest clearances for the 54 coal blocks before auctioning them to power, steel and other firms. According to reports, government finds it preferable to secure green nod before auctioning these blocks in order to avoid delay in developing them.

Reports suggest that government may authorise the proposed coal regulator to decide the methodology to fix prices of the fuel to check abuse of monopoly by any coal producer.
The issue would be considered while finalising the Coal Regulatory Authority Bill. The Coal Ministry wants coal producers to be allowed to determine the price of the commodity, although it wants the pricing methodology to be decided by the regulator.

Coal block allocation
In order to clarify doubts raised on allocation of coal blocks to private companies for captive use during 2004-2009, Coal Ministry said these blocks were allocated to promote development of infrastructure.
Revised proposal for 'no-go' area projects
The Coal Ministry has asked states to give fresh proposals to the Environment Ministry for projects stuck in no-go areas. This would help redeem investment amounting to Rs 40,000 crore in key infrastructure projects in power, cement and steel sectors.
