To promote transshipment at Indian ports, the Shipping Ministry has allowed relaxations in cabotage rules. Cabotage is the transport of goods or passengers between two places in the same country. Transshipment is the movement of goods and containers to an intermediate destination.

As the 100 agreement labourers involved in moving containers to and from the DP World-operated International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) in Kochi went on a strike from late afternoon on December 23. As a result, container movement at the ICTT has come to a standstill.

The vessel mv BBC Victoria sailed from Kochi with three load containers of commercial explosives for Indonesia. The Indian Explosives company sent the first container cargo recently.

The combined container volume of Seattle and Tacoma ports in August was 2,96,28,920-foot-equivalent units, declining 5.5 per cent from 313,602 TEUs in August 2012, say media reports.
Korean vessel visits L&T Kattupalli Port

Govt clears Beypore port project
Kerala government gave administrative approval for a Rs 380-lakh project to develop the Beypore port, Minister for Ports K Babu was quoted as saying in an official press note. Of the total amount, Rs 300 lakh would be spent on installing reach stackers for the movement of cargo containers from the wharf to the stacking
Moving of boxes to a pvt station from Kochi port postponed
Following objections raised by Kochin port users, Kochi Customs has postponed by three months its decision to implement the en-bloc movement of import containers from ICTT to a private container freight station. The stakeholders at the port alleged that the decision would involve an additional expenditure of Rs 5,000/teu for moving the boxes.
