Union Minister of Mines, Dinsha Patel has said that the National Mineral Policy, 2008 states that mining activities will be undertaken so that special care is paid to protect the interest of host and indigenous (tribal) population through developing models of stakeholder interest based on international best practice.

Deep sea exploring ship dedicated to nation
The Rs 650-crore deep sea exploration ship, Samudra Ratnakar, was dedicated to the nation by the Union Minister for Mines Dinsha Patel at Kandla Port in Gujarat on October 12. The ship is currently docked at Kandla Port. The ship is the first of its kind in the south east Asia.
Govt expects to solve Goa ore mining ban issue sonn
Expecting a rise in iron ore exports, which would help to lower the current account deficit, the Union government hopes to get relief on iron ore mining in Goa by November. Union Minister for Mines Dinsha Patel hoped that the legal and environmental issues in Goa's iron ore mining will be resolved by October-end or November first week.
Cabinet approves new Mining Bill
The Union Cabinet approved the Mines and Mineral Development and Regulation (MMDR) Bill, 2011. The Bill aimed at curbing illegal mining and bringing more transparency in the allocation of licences for mining.The Bill has provisions for 26 percent profit sharing by coal miners and an amount equivalent to royalty by non-coal miners with project affected people.
