Railways’ freight traffic rises 4.12% in 2012-13
During 2012-13, the Indian Railways have carried 1.009 billion tonne of revenue earning freight traffic compared to 969.78 million tonne in the previous year. Railways slashes charges for moving containers
The Indian Railways has decided to charge less for moving some categories of containers. After deciding, in November 2012, to raise haulage rates by up to 31 per cent in two installments — in December 1, 2012, and February 1, 2013, the Railway Ministry has now decided to lower the rates by five per cent in two segments — 10-20 tonne cargo in twenty feet equivalent unit (TEU) containers, and 20-40 tonne cargo in forty feet equivalent (FEU) containers.
Railways to revise passenger fares in Oct
As part of an exercise to introduce a fuel adjustment component (FAC) in passenger segment, the Indian Railways would revise passenger fares in October. According to the FAC policy, the freight and passenger rates would be revised twice a year, keeping in mind the proportionate movement in diesel and electricity prices.
Assocham wants govt to allow Railways to refine oil

By leasing out its land to build hotels, malls, warehouses and even residential complexes Indian Railways hopes to mop up about Rs 2,000 crore. Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal announced that a target of Rs 1,000 crore each is proposed to be fixed for Rail Land Development Authority and IR Station Development Corporation in 2013-14.
